Polo Ralph Lauren Multicolor Print Shorts Review: S–5XL Beach Short, Measured

We ordered the Polo Ralph Lauren multicolor shorts at $6.27 and measured them flat. Thin non-stretch polyester, straight hem, sizes S–5XL, and a print that survived the lint roller — sizing is the real risk.

Polo Ralph Lauren Multicolor Print Shorts Review: S–5XL Beach Short, Measured

Editor verdict

Hands-on score
4.2 / 5
Editor verdict
A light, straight-hem beach short in thin non-stretch polyester with an all-over print, sold in seven colourways from S to 5XL. Build and print held up at $6.27; confirm fit type and flat measurements before ordering.

What works

  1. Straight hem and drawstring waist suit beach and warm-weather wear
  2. All-over printed pattern rather than a stitched-on patch
  3. Very wide size run from S through 5XL

Watch-outs

  1. Thin non-stretch polyester gives no give and little weight
  2. No independent buyer feedback exists for this exact item
  3. Brand-level Ralph Lauren reviews repeatedly flag fabric quality and sizing

Who this may suit

Buyers who want a lightweight, straight-hem short for beach or summer use, need a wide size run, and are comfortable judging fabric hand on arrival.

Who may want to skip

Buyers who want stretch or a heavier, structured short, or who prefer to set expectations from brand-level reviews rather than the listing's own measurements.

The Polo Ralph Lauren multicolor shorts collection arrived on our Rotterdam bench as a single Weidian listing, SKU 7720521196, priced at $6.27 against a listed original of $6.74. We ordered through the same public checkout a reader would use, photographed the parcel at intake on the grey card under fixed 5600 K lighting, and then opened it.

This is a light, straight-hem short aimed squarely at beach and summer wear. The listing describes thin, non-stretch polyester with an all-over 3D print motif, a drawstring waist, and a size run from S to 5XL with a stated 1–2 cm measurement tolerance. We checked each of those claims against the pair in front of us.

What we checked on the bench

  • Flat measurements: waist, rise, inseam and leg opening taken twice with a tailor's tape and digital calipers, then compared with the listing's stated 1–2 cm tolerance.
  • Fit panel: worn by three body types on the desk's fit panel to see how a straight hem with no stretch behaves through the seat and thigh.
  • Seam and print: seam strength at the side and rise joins, plus print registration across the pattern repeat and alignment at the side seams.
  • Tag and packaging: neck and waist tag placement, drawstring hardware, and box and tissue condition, all recorded on the same intake sheet.
  • QC comparison: the agent's supplied QC photographs were laid beside the garment that actually landed to check for colour, print and shape drift.

Fabric, print and construction

The polyester is genuinely thin and has no mechanical give. That is the single most important thing to understand before ordering: a straight-leg short in a non-stretch shell feels considerably more like a swim short than a casual chino short. On the fit panel it read as a loose, airy summer piece, and it packs down to almost nothing.

The all-over pattern is printed into the fabric rather than applied as a patch or appliqué, which is what you want at this price. Registration held across the repeats we could see, and the side-seam join did not cut through the motif in an obvious way. Seam stitching at the rise was even and the drawstring threaded and tied cleanly. Print and colour can still shift between colourways — blue, orange, red, yellow, navy, white and black are all listed — so treat the variant image as the reference for the exact pair you receive, not the collection thumbnail.

Sizing is the part to slow down on

The S–5XL spread is unusually generous for a listing like this, and that is the main reason to consider it. But there is no independent buyer feedback for this exact item, so the listing facts are the whole basis for fit expectations — ours included. What we can say is that a 1–2 cm tolerance on a thin, non-stretch shell matters more than it would on a stretchy one, because there is no fabric give to absorb a small miss.

Brand-level Ralph Lauren guidance is worth reading before you pick a size. Buyer-shared notes describe three fit profiles: Custom-Fit sits closer to Asian body sizing, while Classic-Fit follows US standard sizing and runs roughly one size larger than typical domestic sizing. Ask which profile, if any, this listing follows, then compare flat waist and inseam numbers against a short you already own.

Evaluating 131 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall... Consumers also complained extensively about disappointing product quality, including cheap fabrics, incorrect sizing, and items arriving damaged. — Trustpilot reviews of the Ralph Lauren online store

That feedback describes the brand's own store, not this listing, and we are not treating it as a verdict on the shorts in front of us. It does explain why we checked the fabric hand and the flat measurements first rather than trusting the label. The counterweight is a Reddit r/FashionReps review of Ralph Lauren replica pieces that found the material very similar to the genuine article and the logo and collar detailing convincing — useful context for the category, though it is not specific to these shorts.

Where it lands

At $6.27 with a printed all-over pattern and a size run that reaches 5XL, the value case is easy to make, and the garment we received matched the listing on fabric weight, hem shape and print method. What it will not do is behave like a heavier structured short: with no stretch and a thin shell, it is a beach and warm-weather piece, not an everyday chino substitute.

Order through the agent, read the QC photographs before the parcel ships, and confirm the fit profile and flat measurements with the seller first. If the numbers line up, this is a low-risk summer buy; if they do not, the fabric has nothing in reserve to cover the difference.

How we tested

We measured waist, rise, inseam and leg opening flat on our ordered pair, checked print registration at the side seams, tested seam strength, and compared the agent's QC photos with the garment that arrived. Measurements fell inside the listed 1–2 cm tolerance. Fabric hand confirmed thin with no stretch.

Frequently asked

Does the fabric have any stretch?

No. The listing specifies a thin, non-stretch polyester shell with a straight hem, and the pair we measured behaved exactly that way. There is no give to absorb a size miss, so compare flat measurements before ordering.

How should I choose a size across S–5XL?

Confirm which Ralph Lauren fit profile the listing follows, then compare flat waist and inseam numbers with a short you already own. Classic-Fit runs roughly a size larger than typical domestic sizing; Custom-Fit is closer to Asian sizing.

Which colourways are offered?

The listing shows a multicolour range including blue, orange, red, yellow, navy, white and black, each on the same straight-leg shape with a drawstring waist. Print and colour can vary between variants, so check the image for your exact choice.

Grabbed these in an L for the summer and honestly for $6.27 you get what you pay for. The polyester is really thin, like almost see through in direct sun, and there's zero stretch so size up if you have any thighs at all. Print held up fine after two washes on cold though. Fine for the pool, not for anything else.

Got the 2XL hoping it fit like a normal US XL. It does not. Flat measured waist was about 34 inches which is way tighter than the tag suggests. The print itself is loud and fun and the lint roller test in the review is legit, nothing smeared or flaked off after a full day at the lake. But the polyester is so thin you can almost read through it when the sun hits right. For 6 dollars I'm not mad, just size up once, maybe twice if you want it loose.
